Jerry Rice

I forgot to mention the other day that at the conference I volunteered last week I had the chance to shake hands with Jerry Rice... who's Jerry Rice? That was my question when everybody became excited as the guy showed up. Well, see below some info from Wikipedia:

"Jerry Lee Rice is a former football wide receiver in the NFL. Rice is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NFL history, consistently showing exceptional performance and strong work ethic on and off of the field. Rice was selected to the Pro Bowl 13 times (1986-1996, 1998, 2002) and named All-Pro 10 times in his 20 NFL seasons. He won three Super Bowl rings as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, (1985-1999), an AFC Championship with the Oakland Raiders (2000-2004), and a division championship with the Seattle Seahawks (2004)"

Not bad, right?

Ciao

Hey rubeo boy,

As I told you before, I am very interested in the EMT MBA of stern. I wanted to know as to what are the various functional roles that MBAs play in the EMT industry. If u go to the EMT industry, what role would you get? I read ur blog where u said that u had a short stint at disney. What was the exact work? Hey, where and how did you collect the information regarding the EMT MBA? Did you state in ur essays that u wanted to go for the EMT MBA or was that decision taken during B school. Sorry for asking so many questions. There are not many treading the EMT MBA path. Hence i could not get a lot of info. When i found ur blog thru the net and started reading it, i was thrilled...BTW, wats ur name??

Hey Santosh,

Let's see if I can wrap up everything.
In relation to typical MBA roles in EMT for MBA students, the most typical ones are in biz development & strategy (that's what I did at Disney). Most of the people that I know who went intoEMT over the summer did this, either in the digital area (increasingly important) or in traditional areas.

In relation to the courses, I didn't know all of them when I was applying. I just knew that Stern was strong in this area. Check also out UCLA and USC, probably the two other strongest schools for EMT.
If you are interested in sports, there is also a posgrad degree in sports at NYU's Tisch school of arts (I just knew about it!!)

As for my application, it was the standard story about going into banking and then uinto private equity. I had EMT in mind but made my final decision once in NY. Hope this is useful

Thanks a lot rubeo boy. It was quite useful. I always wondered as to what constituted EMT degrees. Now i have a better understanding of things.

However, i read that business development is mostly for ppl with a lot of experience. I have around 2.5 yrs of experience now. If i get an admit into the EMT and pursue a biz dev course next yr, would it be difficult for me to get a job.

And, i read in many places as well as in ur blog, that finding a job in EMT industry after the MBA is pretty tough and more so for a foreigner. I have this fear inside me that if i do not land a job after my EMT course wat am i going to do, as i would have a HUGE financial burden on my shoulder? Did this thought not scare you?

I am really concerned about that. It has taken me a lot of time to decide between pursuing a more "tratitional" mba path (i-banking, consulting) with large wages and sticking to my gut and try to do what I really want ( at a much cheaper price!). Risk management and risk aversion...like CAPM!! It will tough to make it into EMT, as you say (even tougher at a competitive salary) but I am confident - or at least try to - and there is always time to coming back to finance... you call, dude!
